This symposium is a one-day event designed to explore different approaches to cult cinema.
Cult cinema is itself a rather broad and sometimes elusive phenomenon, yet is a term that is increasingly used in popular discourse and a topic that is now regularly studied and taught by academics. This symposium seeks to address some of the difficulties and challenges of studying cult cinema – such as methodological issues and ways of historicizing the field – as well as opening up fresh approaches to the field.
This is a small event primarily involving members of the AHRC network ‘Global Cult Cinema in the Age of Convergence’ and it will commence this network’s academic events. It will be followed by two larger, international conferences at Aberystwyth in April 2014 (on cult cinema and technologies) and Vancouver in November 2014 (on global cult cinema).
Speakers include:
• Matt Hills (Aberystwyth University)
• IQ Hunter (De Montfort University)
• Russ Hunter (Northumbria University)
• Antonio Lazaro-Reboll (University of Kent)
• Xavier Mendik (University of Brighton)
• Emma Pett (University of South Wales)
• Iain Robert Smith (University of Roehampton)
• Justin Smith (University of Portsmouth)
• Dolores Tierney (University of Sussex)
